Support Queens Community House
Queens Community House provides individuals and families with the tools to enrich their lives and build healthy, inclusive communities.
On June 11, QCH attended the Queens Power Kick-off Assembly, which took place at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica, Queens. The newly-formed coalition organizes and unites community partners in Queens to create positive change in our communities.
More than 600 leaders from 25 Queens organizations attended this first gathering, including 30 passionate QCH participants, staff and volunteers - all donning QCH's signature, bright red tee shirt.
QCH Executive Director, Ben Thomases, and Marla Roscioli, a QCH ESOL student and active volunteer in our Immigration Services and Action Group, provided testimonies.
During the assembly, neighbors testified about chronic flooding, failing bus and train services, waste-filled streets, lack of quality schools, and housing affordability.
Queens Power is sponsored by Metro Industrial Areas Foundation, with organizer Matthew Marienthal at the helm. Issues brought forth in this inaugural event will inform Queens Power’s 2019 fall agenda.
