Queens Community House's Volunteer Services Department continues to offer ways for people to support Queens' most vulnerable residents.
Here's a few ways you can volunteer:
- Become a Friendly Visitor. Our Friendly Visiting program pairs kindhearted individuals with homebound older adults in Central and Southwe Queens who are in need of companionship. Typically, volunteers make regular visits to our participants' homes. Visits are currently taking place over the phone or via online apps. Right now, volunteers are asked to make a call once per week to their match during this difficult time. (The usual commitment is one 1-hour visit per week.) Must be 18 years or older. If you are interested in becoming a Friendly Visitor, please indicate so in the message portion of the webform below.
- Volunteer at our Food Pantry. Our Pomonok food pantry is looking for able-bodied volunteers to assist with unloading deliveries and sorting and packing food pantry bags. Additional assistance is needed on pantry day to help with registering participants and line management as it relates to social distancing. Volunteers should be able to lift 25-35 pounds and are needed on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9AM-1PM.
- Volunteer with our Job Club. The QCH Youth Workforce Division is looking for volunteers to support our young adult participants with resumes and mock interviewing skills. The Job Club meets on Thursdays and volunteers would be asked to make an hour commitment to provide support to one or two young adults.
