Patch: Forest Hills Community Board Launches Coronavirus Webinar Series

Forest Hills Community Board Launches Coronavirus Webinar Series | February 2021: Queens Community Board 6 is launching a monthly webinar series dedicated to sharing the latest health news and related resources available to seniors and people with disabilities in the Forest Hills and Rego Park communities.

Called "COVID-Rx," the new series is the brainchild of the board's Aging, Social Services & Disabilities Committee, according to a news release.

The webinars will include speakers from the medical, health, wellness and social services fields discussing such topics as mental health and elder abuse.

"Many seniors and people with disabilities have no idea about the wealth of resources available to them in this community," said Mark Laster, co-chair of the board's Aging,Social Services & Disabilities Committee. "We want to change that. We not only want people to survive during COVID, we want them to thrive during COVID."

Committee members were inspired to create the series after seeing the popularity of previous health-related webinars they had hosted.

A December presentation by Dr. Andrew Wallach, the chief medical officer of ambulatory care for NYC Health + Hospitals, drew hundreds of viewers, according to the community board.

"We've already done seven health-related webinars and found the ones focused onCOVID-19 to be immensely popular," Queens Community Board 6 Chair Alexa Weitzman said. "Clearly there is a need for this information, which is why I'm thrilled that the Aging, Social Services & Disabilities committee created the 'COVID-Rx' series. We want to engage, educate and empower as many people as possible during these challenging times."

The first COVID-Rx webinar, scheduled for the evening of Feb. 22, will feature speakers from Queens Community House and Commonpoint Queens. Click here to register.
