"When my family and I came to the United States, we were looking for a better future and the opportunities this country could offer us. Moving to a new country was a big change, but it has been an amazing experience. I learned a new language, English, and my family and I found opportunities that have helped us build a better life.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was not knowing English. I also had to adjust to a new environment and culture. When I started at MS 217, I worked hard every day to learn the language, adapt, and do my best so I could create more opportunities for myself and my family.
Queens Community House's afterschool program at MS 217 was a big part of that journey. It gave me a positive place to spend my time through sports, art, and homework help. It was a place where I could keep learning and growing after school.
Soccer has changed my life. I believe my talent and passion for the game helped me earn my scholarship, and it has always motivated me to keep working hard. Playing in the QCH Principal's Cup gave me the chance to show what I could do and opened doors to opportunities I never imagined. My dream is to become a professional soccer player.
When I found out I had been accepted to Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School with a full scholarship, housing, books, and uniforms, I felt incredibly grateful to everyone who helped me along the way. I was also proud because I am the first person in my family to earn a full scholarship. Seeing how happy they are because of everything I've achieved motivates me to keep going.
Knowing that my story can inspire other young people to work toward their dreams means a lot to me. If I could give advice to young people who are starting over or facing difficult circumstances, I would tell them to work hard, never give up, and be willing to adapt. If you keep believing in yourself and putting in the effort, you can achieve the goals you set for your life.
Looking ahead, my biggest goal is to become the best soccer player I can be and one day be able to support my family."
