Meet Your Neighbor: Hyun Soo Lee

Applying to college in 2018 was one of the best decisions of my life because it led me to intern for QCH's Case Management Department and meet Ms. Blanca Goris, the best role model in the social work field. I am a middle-aged Korean immigrant and lived as an outsider for a decade before turning in the right direction in life. I believe a social work career is like catching two birds with one stone as it allows one to achieve self-actualization while empowering marginalized members of the community. 

Working as a student intern in the QCH Case Management Department was a very fortunate opportunity and blessing milestone as it assisted me in developing the professionalism of my social work career. Ms. Goris maintains a cooperative working environment and respectful agency culture. It really allows all staff to focus solely on home-bound seniors and help them achieve a better quality of life. The supportive atmosphere and respect among staff have been consistent throughout my internship, and I could feel that even though I worked remotely at home due to COVID-19. 

If it hadn't been for Ms. Goris and other supervisors' limitless support and encouragement, I probably would not have identified my strengths or built my professional ethical development. I was able to challenge myself doing this work, and I did not need to worry about being judged by others. It has been quite the circuitous route to get to this point. I am a future LMSW, and I plan to attend the Hunter Silberman School for my master's degree this fall. I look forward to continuing my journey in social work to help the community.
