On September 20, more than 100 Aramark associates will volunteer to support Queens Community House (QCH), on Aramark Building Community Day (ABC Day), the company’s global day of service.
“I left Guatemala for New York City when I was 35 years old. My wife, two daughters and I moved into the Forest Hills Co-op, and I started washing dishes at a local bakery.
Council Member Rory Lancman (D-Fresh Meadows) is encouraging his constituents to sign their children up for Queens Community House Pomonok Center summer programs, following his $9,000 in funding for the activities.
“I grew up in the Pomonok Houses and when I was eligible to join a senior center, I knew I had to come to the Pomonok Senior Center. I’ve made so many friends and I love the trips we take. We have exercise classes and singing classes, and I feel like they just keep us going.
“I’ve been a part of this neighborhood since I was little. I live in the building right next to the Pomonok Community Center, so I’ve been volunteering and helping out here for as long as I can remember.
"I’ve been with QCH’s Pomonok Community Center since kindergarten. After I was done with school, I would come here for their After School Program and do my homework along with other activities.
